Understanding Medicare Plans
Medicare is divided into several parts, each serving a unique purpose:
Part A (Hospital Insurance)
Covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facilities, hospice care, and some home health services.
Part B (Medical Insurance)
Includes outpatient care, doctor services, preventive services, durable medical equipment, and certain home health care.
Part C (Medicare Advantage)
An alternative to Original Medicare offered by private companies. Typically bundles Parts A and B, and often Part D.
Part D (Prescription Drugs)
Helps cover prescription medications and some recommended vaccinations. Available standalone or through Medicare Advantage.
Medigap (Supplement Insurance)
Adds coverage for certain out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare. Standardized plans are labeled A–D, F, G, and K–N.
